How do I use an insulated food jar to keep food warm?Updated 21 days ago
For the best results we suggest the following steps when using an insulated food jar for packing hot food:
- Preheat the insulated flask prior to use by filling with freshly boiled water from the kettle. Let stand for 5 minutes, empty, fill with food and place the lid straight back on.
- Ensure the food is heated to piping hot- hotter than you would to serve the food ordinarily.
- Fill the food jar to the top. Any air remaining in the food jar will cause the contents to cool faster.
- Dry food items such as boiled eggs, chicken nuggets or pastries are not as effective at retaining heat and will cool faster than more liquid food like stews, soups or noodles.
- Test the food jar out at home before sending it to school (or work) so you can know exactly how hot you need to pre-heat the food in the morning so it is at the ideal temperature for your child (or you) come lunchtime.
- Do not pack the food jar in a lunch bag with an ice pack, or put it in the fridge. This will cause the food in the jar to cool down much faster.
If you'd like to pack hot and cold food next to each other in the same lunchbox we'd recommend the OmieBox UP as it is designed for it's inbuilt ice pack to not affect or compromise hot food in the thermal food jar
If you are using the food jar for cold food like fruit salad, sushi or yoghurt we suggest pre-chilling the flask with icy-cold water prior to packing.
